College Park, Md. - Six Maryland women's lacrosse players have been named to the International Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's South Region All-American list, including five first-team selections. The Terrapins five first-team picks were the most of any school. Maryland's quarterfinal opponent Georgetown had three, as did James Madison. Fellow Atlantic Coast Conference schools Duke and North Carolina had two each, giving the ACC 10 of the 16 first-team selections.

Attack Jen Adams (Marino, South Australia), attack Allison Comito (Glen Head, N.Y.), midfielder Christie Jenkins (Media, Pa.), goalkeeper Alex Kahoe (Villanova, Pa.), and defender Tonia Porras (Shaker Heights, Ohio) were all first-team selections for the Terps. Senior midfielder Kristin Sommar (North Wales, Pa.) received second-team recognition.

The 2000 ACC Player of the Year, Adams' selection to the South Region team is her second consecutive. She leads the nation in scoring entering the NCAA tournament, averaging 6.0 points per game and is second in assists per game with a 2.42 average. Only a junior, Adams is posting phenomenal numbers this season and is just three goals away from tying her school-record for goals in a season at 71. She also needs just two assists to tie Kelly Amonte for single-season assists record at 48, and three points to tie her 1999 record of 117 points in a season.

Comito, an All-ACC selection for the Terps, is receiving her first IWLCA South Region selection. The Terps' second-leading scorer, Comito has accumulated 57 goals and 25 assists this season. She ranks 14th nationally in points per game with a 4.32 average.

A three-time All-South selection, Jenkins is serving her second year as a Terrapin team captain and is the team's fourth-leading scorer with 38 goals and 23 assists. She is currently sixth in Maryland history for career goals (149), ninth in career assists (73) and sixth in career points (222).

One of two goalkeepers on the list, Kahoe is also receiving her third selection to the All-South Region team. A two-year team captain, Kahoe is among the nation's best goalies again, and has a 7.06 goals against average and a .604 save percentage. The top goalie in the ACC, her 948 career saves are the most ever in Terrapin history, only Marylynne Morgan (1981-84) is even close with 720.

The keystone of Maryland's No. 4 defense, Porras anchors a stingy unit that gives up only 7.16 goals per game. In addition to her defensive efforts, Porras has also added four goals and five assists to the Terps' offensive punch this season. The South Region selection is Porras' second in her four-year career.

A tri-captain for the Terps this season, Sommar's second team selection is the third South Region honor of her career. Sommar rounds out Maryland's stable of 30-plus goal scorers. She has 33 goals and 25 assists this season for Maryland. Her 72 career assists are 10th all-time at Maryland.

Maryland (18-1) meets Georgetown Sunday after the Hoyas eliminated Syracuse 11-10 at Kehoe Field Thursday afternoon. The Hoyas and Terrapins also met in the quarterfinals of last year's NCAA Tournament, with Maryland advancing to the semifinals with a 17-6 win. Game time on Sunday is 1 p.m. at Ludwig Field. Maryland is undefeated in NCAA quarterfinal match-ups at home, posting a perfect 4-0 record. Maryland enters the tournament as the five-time defending national champions with a 24-8 overall record in NCAA Tournament play.

The 2000 women's lacrosse championships will be hosted by the College of New Jersey in Trenton, N.J., on May 19-21. The semifinals will be held Friday, May 19 at 6 and 8 p.m., with the final taking place on Sunday, May 21 at 3 p.m.
