Q&A with Kristy Black

Feb. 28, 2011

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Kristy Black has moved from Maryland's first player off the bench to one of its top scoring threats in 2011. Black, who racked up three draw controls and a goal in Maryland's big win against No. 3 Duke Saturday, took some time to answer a few questions recently.

Q; After you won the national championship last season, who was the first person you called and/or texted?
Black: Hmm, I was in shock! I think touching my cell phone was the last thing on my mind.

Q: If Maryland had to change its mascot and colors tomorrow, what would you like to see it change to?
Black: A dragon. I'd never change the colors. They are my favorite and the most intimidating!

Q: What is the best show on television that no one is talking about?
Black: MythBusters or Cash Cab

Q: If you could have one superpower to make you the best player ever in women's lacrosse, what would it be and how would you use it?
Black: To teleport. It would allow me to get from one side of the field to the other before anyone could even tell you disappeared.

Q: Besides www.umterps.com, name the top three websites you visit daily:
Black: YouTube, Elms (unfortunately) and Yahoo!.

Q: What are three things you can't live without?
Black: Family, friends and ramen noodles.

Q: Maryland has 27 sports, but if they had to add one more, what would you like it to be?
Black: Ice Hockey or Fencing. I'd try out for fencing, but ice hockey is one of my favorite sports to watch. GO CAPS!

Q: What bit of celebrity news so far in 2011 has been the most shocking?
Black: The fact that Justin Bieber has a movie...NEVER SAY NEVERRRRR!

Q: What is the best advice anyone has given you and who gave it to you?
Black: "Knowing is Beyond Faith" -Robbie Black (my brother)

Q: You either get an invitation to the Royal Wedding or front row tickets to the Super Bowl - which are you taking?
Black: SUPER BOWL...no hesitation. There is no halftime show at weddings and athletes become famous on their own, not because of their family!
