COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapins are ranked fifth in the country heading into the 2005 season, accoring to Lacrosse Magazine's annual preseason rankings, released in the January/February issue of the magazine. Defending national champions top the respective polls in seven of the eight polls for men and women in Divisions I, II, III and junior college.

Virginia tops the poll on the women's side. The Cavaliers captured both the NCAA and ACC titles in 2004. Leading scorer and Tewaaraton winner Amy Appelt will lead the 'Hoos again this season. Behind Virginia is NCAA runner-up Princeton, Northwestern, Duke and Maryland. The Wildcats and Blue Devils are coached by Terrapin alums Kelly Amonte Hiller and Kerstin Kimel.
