Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced earler this year that the ACC will send eight of its spring championships -- women's lacrosse among them -- to Orlando, Florida, and Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex between April 19-22, 2001. Men's and women's golf, lacrosse, tennis and outdoor track & field are the eight championships that are slated to take place that weekend at Disney's world-class facilities.

The 2001 ACC SpringFest is the highlight of a four-year relationship with Disney's Wide World of SportsTM Complex. The 200-acre facility began hosting ACC Championships in 1997 with men's soccer followed by women's soccer and men's and women's outdoor track & field in 1998 and volleyball in 1999. In addition to the five league championships, the popular ACC Disney Baseball Blast had its three-year stint from 1998-2000 featuring all nine ACC institutions during that time period.

"The Atlantic Coast Conference and Disney's Wide World of SportsTM Complex have formed a unique relationship. By sending our student-athletes to their world-class facilities and housing those athletes in close proximity, we are able to create a bowl-like environment for our Olympic sports," states Swofford.

For the first time in ACC history, all student-athletes and coaches will be housed in the same area (a series of hotels along a half-mile stretch of Palm Drive in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.), providing an Olympic Village style of experience for those 1,000 athletes participating in the championships.

During the four days of competition, men's and women's track & field and lacrosse will be held at Disney's Wide World of SportsTM Complex. Men's and Women's golf will be located at Disney's Palm and Disney's Magnolia Golf Courses, which annually host a PGA TOUR stop in Orlando. The men's and Women's tennis championships will be held at the Lake Cane Tennis Center located just off the Walt Disney World property.

Disney's Wide World of SportsTM Complex is spread over 200 acres and hosts more than 30 sports in professional and amateur competition and training in the heart of the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort. The state-of-the-art facility includes nine venues and is home to more than 40 Amateur Athletic Union National Championships, the Atlanta Braves Spring Training, the Orlando Rays minor league baseball, the Harlem Globetrotters training camp and holiday series, the only permanent version of the NFL Experience and the Official All Star Cafe.
