College Park, Md.- - The No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team has only one more task before the NCAA tournament begins-to wait and see who its next opponent will be. The Terrapins, who have been ranked first in the nation all season, will find that out when the NCAA Women's Lacrosse brackets are announced on Sunday, May 7 at 7 p.m.
The team, who played to an 18-1 record this season and won the ACC Championship for the second straight year, has plans to watch the selection show together on campus. The selection show can be viewed via DSS (DirecTV, Dish Network) live on either Empire Sports or Home Team Sports and begins at 7 p.m. Please check www.ncaachampionships.com under TV Schedule for additional stations that may also be broadcasting the selection show live.
Maryland is in the hunt for its sixth straight NCAA Championship, and its first of the new millennium, but eleven other Division I opponents will provide a formidable challenge to the defending champions along the way. Four of the 12 teams selected to the tournament field will receive first-round byes. The other eight will begin NCAA play on Thursday, May 11 on various campus sites. The tournament continues on Sunday, May 14 with quarterfinal match-ups, which will also be held on campus sites. The victors will then advance to the NCAA championships, which will be held at the College of New Jersey the weekend of May 19-21. Both semifinal games will be held on Friday, May 19 at 6 and 8 p.m. The championship game will be held on Sunday, May 21 at 3 p.m.
