INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Maryland was awarded the third overall seed in the upcoming 2012 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship Sunday.
The Terps (17-3) earned the automatic bid from the Atlantic Coast Conference after winning their fourth straight ACC championship. Maryland will play host to UMass at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Maryland leads the nation with 28 appearances in the tournament. The Terps are also tops with 49 wins, 16 championship game appearances and 10 NCAA titles.
UMass enters the game with a 19-1 overall record and an offense that features five players with 40+ points. This will be the second all-time meeting between UMass and Maryland in the NCAA Tournament. The two squads also met in the 1983 NCAA Semifinals with the Terps winning 9-4.
Tickets for Saturday's first round action will be $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. Fans should prepare for heavy traffic due to UMUC graduation at the Comcast Center.
