COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Kelly Kasper tallied a career-high seven points and Katie Doolittle found the back of the net five times as the fourth-ranked Maryland Terrapins defeated Old Dominion 19-7 Saturday afternoon at the Lacrosse & Field Hockey Complex. The Terps closed the first half on a 4-1 run, and then scored the first nine goals of the second half to pull away from the Monarchs.

"Late in the first half, this was a one-goal game, but we really dug down and showed the toughness that we've been talking about," head coach Cindy Timchal said. "We maximized our chances on offense, controlled the ball well, and defensively I thought we made things very difficult for them."

Kasper led the way for Maryland with four goals and three assists on the afternoon. In addition to Doolittle's five goals, the Terps got three from Delia Cox and two from Brooke Richards. Casey Magor and Krista Pellizzi each tallied three assists and one goal for Maryland.

The Terrapin defense held Old Dominion scoreless for nearly 27 minutes in the game. Allie Buote made 11 saves and allowed only six goals in 56 minutes of work. Lynne Cooper came off the bench to make a pair of saves in the game's final four minutes.

Trailing 5-3 with 10:15 left in the first half, Old Dominion (2-2) midfielder Melody Shotwell converted a free-position shot to pull within a goal. However, The Terps would respond with four-straight goals from Doolittle, Kasper, Cox and Kate McWilliams over the next nine minutes. Shotwell added her third goal of the afternoon on an unassited goal with :22 seconds left in the half to cut the Maryland advantage to 9-5 at halftime.

The Terps (5-3) stormed out of the gates in the second half with nine-straight goals over the first 22 minutes of the second half. Highlighting the run for Maryland were three scores by Doolittle in three minutes. Magor's three assists and one goal also helped spark the 9-0 Terrapin run. Seven of the nine goals were assisted.

Old Dominion's Ashley Stanwick ended the Monarch scoring drought with 4:30 left to play. Maryland's Alex Mavris came off the bench and took a feed from Richards in front of the net to score her first career goal in the game's 59th minute before ODU closed out the scoring with a Sarah Lautenbach goal with :36 seconds left in the game.

For the second straight game, Maryland held a sizeable advantage in draw controls, winning 18 of 28 draws on the day. Kasper led Maryland with five and Meghan Higgins added three.

The Terps will be back in action at the Lacrosse & Field Hockey Comlex on Tuesday to take on Dartmouth. The first draw will be at 1 p.m.
