Women's Lacrosse Lands Four on U.S. National Team

BALTIMORE - Maryland rising junior Caitlyn McFadden and alums Quinn Carney, Becky Clipp and Acacia Walker were among 49 players chosen to represent the U.S. women's lacrosse national teams in 2008-09, as announced by US Lacrosse on Sunday.

McFadden, a 2008 All-ACC selection, ranked second for Maryland last season with 27 assists. The Phoenix, Md., product also ranked fourth in points with 54 and added 27 goals.

Carney, who is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Terps, is the lone holdover from the U.S. national team that captured silver in 2005. Carney played for the Terps from 1998-2001, winning four national championships and earning All-America honors twice in her career. This is her eleventh year with the U.S. national team.

Clipp, a standout defender from 2004-07, was a two-time All-American as a Terp. The Catonsville, Md., natvie was a member of the Developmental Team last year.

Walker, who is now an assistant coach at Northwestern, suited up for the Terps from 2002-05 and was tabbed All-America twice.

The player pool will be divided into Elite and Developmental teams following US Lacrosse's Stars and Stripes weekend (Oct. 10-13). All players are eligible to represent Team USA at the 2009 IFWLA World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, with the final 18-player roster expected to be announced following the US Lacrosse Champions Challenge in January 2009.
