KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - Katie Schwarzmann and Alex Aust picked up more hardware Saturday night as the IWLCA named the duo National Midfielder and Attacker of the Year, respectively, at its annual banquet.
It is the third straight award for Schwarzmann, who became a member of Maryland's elite 300-point club Friday with a four-point showing against Syracuse in the national semifinals Friday. The senior Tewaaraton finalist from Sykesville, Md., heads into her final game as a Terrapin with 301 points, 225 goals and 76 assists in her storied career.
Aust emerged as one of the finest attackers in Maryland history in her final two seasons in College Park. The senior has her name scattered all over the Terrapin record books. The Sterling, Va., native's marks in 2013 rank 10th in goals (69), third in assists (54), and third in points (123) in single season history. She's also third all-time in assists (131) and sixth in points (273) on the career list.
Maryland will face North Carolina in the championship game Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ESPNU. With the win, the Terps would capture their nation-leading 11th NCAA crown and complete their fifth undefeated season in program history.
