On Megan Kelly: Lone starter returning from last year’s defensive unit who will be counted on heavily in 2002 … a strong all-around player who is a tenacious defender and very good athlete … one of the fastest players on the team … a tough player who came up big down the stretch last year when she went from the team’s top reserve to a full-time starter due to injury … versatile player who played midfield early in her career … pulled double duty for the Terrapin field hockey team where she was a starting forward … one of the best conditioned athletes on this year’s team … will likely be matched up with the opponent’s top offensive player this year.

2001 (Junior): Played in all 23 games, starting the last 10 … became the full-time starter after the Johns Hopkins game when senior Meg Carrington injured her knee … was outstanding in her first action as a starter … finished the season with 30 ground balls, five caused turnovers and seven draw controls.

2000 (Sophomore): Saw action in all 22 games … gathered eight ground balls and caused two opponent turnovers … also controlled three draws.

1999 (Freshman): Saw action in all 21 of the Terps’ games, starting in one … netted one goal out of the midfield … took two shots on the season, converting on one against Brown (3/22) … grabbed eight ground balls, caused two turnovers, and had four draw controls.

Prep: A 1998 graduate of The Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Md. … a two-sport athlete, playing field hockey and lacrosse … a four-year letterwinner in both sports … a two-time all-county selection in lacrosse … earned all-league honors and was an honorable mention All-American as a senior … also a two-year all-league and all-county selection in field hockey … earned All-America honors as a senior in field hockey … earned All-Met field hockey honors by the Washington Post as a junior and a senior …was invited to the United States Field Hockey Association’s (USFHA) A camp …as a senior, she played on the Chesapeake Futures Under-19 field hockey team that won the gold medal at the Futures National Tournament … also recruited by North Carolina, Loyola, Georgetown, Pennsylvania and Dartmouth.

Personal: Megan Kelly was born on May 20, 1980 … is the daughter of Marlene and Rick Kelly … a communications major … sister, Kristen, is in her second year with the Terp lacrosse program … has aspirations to be a DJ.
