After working her way through knee injuries in both 1997 and 1998, last season marked the first time Becky Shank was really able to contribute for the Terrapins. Shank saw a considerable amount of playing time, providing depth in all 21 games on the Terrapin defense. Her sister, Julie Shank, is a freshman on this year's team.
As a redshirt sophomore in 1999: Played in all 21 games … scored on her only shot of the year against Temple (3/30) … also had an assist, her career first, against Harvard (4/11) … totaled nine ground balls, four caused turnovers, and five draw controls … ACC Academic Honor Roll.
As a redshirt freshman in 1998: Earned a medical redshirt after suffering a knee injury.

Before Maryland: Hails from Severna Park High School where she was a two-sport athlete, playing both lacrosse and field hockey for four years … a two-time honorable mention All-American in lacrosse in 1994 and 1995 … voted captain of both teams her senior year … led field hockey team to four consecutive county, region and state championships … helped guide field hockey team to a 16-0 record for three consecutive years … was a member of the 1993 lacrosse squad which was crowned the county, region and state champions … the 1996 squad recorded a 12-2 record … earned first team all-county in lacrosse in 1996, and a second-team selection in 1994 … a two-time first team all-county, all-metro and all-state selection in 1994 and 1995.
