NEWTON, Mass. - The No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team limited Boston College to a mere eight shots in a 13-5 victory on the road Saturday.

Maryland (8-0, 3-0 ACC) allowed a season-best five goals to BC (3-4, 1-1 ACC) and outshot the Eagles 29-8. Freshman Taylor Cummings led the offense with four goals. Alex Aust added a hat trick and Kelly McPartland posted two goals and an assist to aid the attack.

The Terrapins continued their early attacking trend with a Cummings' goal at 29:06. The rookie tallied another to put Maryland up 2-0 before BC got on the board 3:25 into the first period. Freshmen continued to pace the offense as scores by Halle Majorana and Cummings padded the lead to 4-1 at 17:15. Maryland outscored BC 3-2 in the final 11 minutes of the period - including a Katie Schwarzmann goal with 11 seconds remaining - to boast a 7-3 advantage at the half.

Maryland's defense, led by Schwarzmann, who held BC standout Mikaela Rix scoreless Saturday, allotted a mere two Eagle goals in the second stanza. Two-time reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Week Alex Aust boasted a hat trick in the final period as Maryland picked up its third conference victory of 2013.

"This was a good ACC road win against a strong Boston College team coached by a Maryland alum," head coach Cathy Reese said. "It was great Katie (Schwarzmann) was able to hold a good player like Rix scoreless and our defensive unit was able to limit BC's opportunities."

The Terps return to action tomorrow with a game at Stony Brook Sunday at 1 p.m.
