The Atlantic Coast Conference on Friday announced the 2013 Women's Golf All-ACC Academic Team, and it includes Maryland's Emily Gimpel and Christine Shimel.

Shimel, a double-major in Marketing and Spanish Language & Cultures, has earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic team all four years of her college career. The Kennett Square, Pa., native was also a three-time NGCA All-American Scholar Recipient. Gimple, a kinesiology major, was selected to the team for the second time.

Lindy Duncan of Duke, a senior psychology major, was named the Scholar-Athlete of the year, and is a four-time All-ACC Academic and All-ACC team honoree.

Thirteen golfers were repeat honorees from the 2012 All-ACC Academic team: Boston College's Katia Joo; Duke's Cangrejo, Duncan and Courtney Ellenbogen; Florida State's Laure Castelain; Maryland's Gimpel and Shimel; North Carolina's Katherine Perry, NC State's Amanda Baker, Marchand and Amanda Baker; and Wake Forest's Marissa Dodd and Olafia Kristinsdottir.

Five golfers earned selection to the All-ACC Academic team for the third time in Cangrejo and Ellenbogen of Duke, Baker and Marchand of NC State and Kristinsdottir of Wake Forest.

Duncan of Duke and Shimel of Maryland were named to the team for the fourth time.

All nine of the ACC schools that sponsor women's golf were represented on this year's All-ACC Academic team. Duke led with five individuals, while NC State had four honorees. Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina and Wake Forest each placed two honorees on the team. Boston College and Virginia each had one selection.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
