COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Postgame quotes following Maryland's 14-3 win over UMBC.
Senior goalie Niko Amato

On the team’s strong defensive play:
In the first half I think we played hard, we played fast, and we played physical. We capitalized and didn’t give them second chance opportunities. It really allowed for us to get the ball in the offensive end and let them do their job. … Today we played as a seven man unit, whoever the seven were, and I think we just executed the game plan fairly well.”

Senior Defender Michael Ehrhardt

On the team’s strong defensive play:
It was definitely a great team effort today. The defense came out great and the whole team came out with a lot of energy. We just played our game and did what we do, and were able to execute our game plan. Collectively as a team we just played great. We played fast off the ground, moved the ball quick and were able to stick some shots. Defensively we were able to execute what we wanted to do. It was a great team effort today.”

Freshman Attackman Matt Rambo

On the defensive performance today:

“I thought they played outstanding, [Michael] Ehrhardt up top was just shutting them down.  Casey [Ikeda], [Matt] Dunn, Goran [Murray], and of course Niko [Amato] was making stops left and right; just keeping us in. Nothing was getting by them and our D-men with Brian Cooper, [John] Belz, and [Nick]Manis were just shut-down today.  They work so hard preparing in practice; it’s great to see them execute like that.

On what was going through his mind after UMBC won the first four faceoffs:

“I was just hoping for a stop from our defense to bring it down to offense to see if we could do something with the ball and hopefully score.”
