COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 2 Maryland men’s soccer team will host its lone exhibition match against Delaware at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ludwig Field.
The Terps went 17-4-5 a year ago and punched their ticket to a second straight College Cup. Maryland boasted its second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship and despite losing top strikers Patrick Mullins and Schillo Tshuma to the Major League Soccer ranks, returns nine starters including MAC Hermann Watch List honoree Dan Metzger.
Delaware was picked to win the CAA title after being selected No. 1 by the league’s head coaches in the preseason poll. The Blue Hens welcome back nine starters from last year’s team that won a school-record 14 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons. Saturday’s exhibition is free to the public. Maryland officially kicks off the 2014 campaign when it travels to No. 14 Louisville for a 7 p.m. match against the Cardinals on Aug. 29. The Terps’ home opener is slated for Monday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
