Douty, Cummings Earn Top Inside Lacrosse Honors

BALTIMORE - The honors continue to pile up for the national champion Maryland women’s lacrosse program as Taylor Cummings and Megan Douty were named Inside Lacrosse National Midfielder and Co-Defender of the Year, respectively, Friday.

Cummings, the 2014 Tewaaraton Award winner, had a stellar sophomore campaign for Maryland. The Ellicott City, Md., product led Maryland with 63 goals, 128 draw controls, 37 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers and ranked second on the Terps’ fourth-ranked scoring offense with 24 assists and 87 points. Cummings, who is also a U.S. Women’s National Team member, is a two-time IWLCA First Team All-American and earned All-ACC honors for a second time in 2014.

Douty, the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year and Tewaaraton Award finalist, anchored Maryland’s defense that held opponents to single-digit scoring in 17 of 23 games in 2014. Douty also collected IWLCA First Team All-America honors for her efforts this season.

Syracuse senior Alyssa Murray and sophomore Kayla Treanor were named IL’s Co-Attackers of the Year and Notre Dame senior Margaret Smith shared IL’s Co-Defender of the Year honors with Douty. North Carolina’s Sydney Holman was named IL’s Rookie of the Year.

Co-Attackers of the Year: Alyssa Murray, Syracuse & Kayla Treanor, Syracuse

Midfielder of the Year: Taylor Cummings, Maryland

Co-Defenders of the Year: Megan Douty, Maryland & Margaret Smith, Notre Dame

Rookie of the Year: Sydney Holman, North Carolina
