No. 8/8 Maryland 110, Wofford 53

Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening Statement:
“I was really pleased with how we played today. Especially when you talk about coming off such a loss on layover. Often times you see games come out where you are sluggish and struggle to find the rhythm. I thought we were really good. When you talk about putting both ends of the floor, I thought there was selflessness on the offensive end. You see us individually and as a team continuing to get better. I liked how we celebrated each other success today. I thought we really did a nice job in terms of growing as a team. Obviously Alyssa’s tripe double should never be taken for granted. They are so difficult and she is just a joy to be able to watch. Those things don’t happen without great teammates knocking down shots and making plays as well.”

On executing zone defense:
“Obviously we were disappointed early on with how they were able to get a lot of their points. We were able to get our legs underneath and do a better job in that area. Obviously when you can shoot the way we shoot on the field, 50 percent from the three point line, we make unselfish plays from one another.”

On starting both halves strong:
“We had two great starts. In the second half, I believe it was 14-5 in terms of setting the tone. That is the type of energy that we’ve got to be able to have.”

On adjustments made to shutdown Jordan Frasier:
“It was something that we obviously talked about at halftime and this team has great pride. Obviously, we knew what she was averaging and so I was disappointed in terms of the point we allowed in the first half. I think its just taking it too heart and doing a much better job locking in on her when she was on the floor.”

On hosting the Terrapin Classic:
“We love it. Unfortunately, it’s probably going to be done after this year because the Big Ten Conference season starts right after Christmas so unfortunately, unless we go back to 16 conference games, we won’t be able to have this any longer. We’ve always loved it, it gives you two games at home. You come back after the holidays, you don’t have to travel, have to get your team in a different location and you can focus on us. That’s what we’ve been able to do the last couple weeks is really spend focusing on us. It’s great, you get to sleep in your own beds and have that kind of consistency with your schedule. So, it’s been really good.”

Sophomore Forward Tierney Pfirman

On shooting with more confidence:
“Just coming back from break, I went home to relax and get myself together. I just want to have fun and not think about anything…just let the game play for itself. That’s what I did today.”

Senior Forward Alyssa Thomas

On picking up two fouls early:
“You still have to play defense. Even with fouls, you can’t really worry about it. If you’re not playing hard defense, then they’re going to get open.”

On her recent success:
“Well the triple double, my teammates just make it so easy. They knock down open shots and this stretch right here, we’ve been practicing hard and we couldn’t wait to get on the floor. We’ve just been trying to bury teams early and play Maryland basketball.”
