GUAYNABO, P.R. – Freshman Lexie Brown notched a new career-high and Preseason All-American Alyssa Thomas added her seventh straight double-double to help No. 8 Maryland beat Ohio, 84-60, Saturday in its final game in the San Juan Shootout.
Brown went hit two threes and went 4-for-5 at the line for a career-high 16 points to help the Terps (7-1). She hit key threes in Maryland’s run in the first half that put the lead by more than 20. Thomas added 13 points and 10 boards, and sophomore Malina Howard added 13 points as well. Redshirt sophomore Brene Moseley picked up 12 points and nine assists.
“I was really proud how we kept up our level of play on short rest from yesterday,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “It was great to see Lexie and Brene score as well as distribute. Just proud of how we got down to business when we needed to this weekend.”
The Bobcats (3-2) came out strong, holding a 14-11 lead eight minutes into the first. The Terrapins responded when Brown sunk a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 run for a 20-13 lead.
Maryland closed the half on a 22-10 run for a 44-25 lead at the break. Brown led with seven points in the spurt.
Maryland maintained its lead throughout the second half off of nine of Brown’s points and over 40 percent shooting.
The Terrapins owned the glass, 48-27, and beat the Bobcats inside, 44-18.
