GREENSBORO, N.C. –  Six members of the top-ranked Maryland field hockey squad were named to the 23-member All-Atlantic Coast Conference Teams released Wednesday. The Terrapins (18-1, 6-0 ACC) had more honorees than any of the other six league schools.

Seniors Jill Witmer, Ali McEvoy, goalkeeper Natalie Hunter and junior Maxine Fluharty were all voted to the 11-member First Team. Sophomore Sarah Sprink and junior Katie Gerzabek earned spots on the Second Team.

Witmer is one of just 11 players in the history of the conference to be honored in all four years of her career. The forward leads the Terps in goals with 15 in 16 games played this year. She is currently No. 5 on Maryland’s all-time career scoring list with 63 goals.

This is the second time McEvoy has been honored, after she earned a nod in 2011. Along with Witmer and Fluharty, the defender was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team at the start of the season. Fluharty is second on the team in goals scored with 11 this year.

Hunter leads the ACC in goals against average (1.04) and save percentage (.810). She is the first Terrapin goalie to be honored since Alicia Grater in 2008.

This is the first All-Conference honor for Sprink and for Gerzabek. Sprink has helped lead the Maryland defense and has scored nine goals this year. Gerzabek has scored 30 goals in her career.

The Terrapins are the unanimous No. 1 in both the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches poll and the latest NCAA RPI rankings released Nov. 5. The Terps have held the top spot in both polls since early October.

The top-seeded Terrapins will compete in the ACC Tournament this weekend in Newton, Mass. They will take on either fourth-seeded Duke (13-5, 3-3) or fifth-seeded Virginia (15-4, 3-3) Friday at 1 p.m. The match will be shown live on RSN, which includes Comcast SportsNet locally, as well as ESPN3.com. The winner of Friday’s game will advance to the championship game Sunday at 1 p.m.
