CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Maryland women’s golf team capped the fall season with a seventh-place finish in a competitive field at the 2013 Palmetto Intercollegiate Monday.

Heidi Baek led the Terps for the second straight week. After posting an 80 in the second round, the sophomore rebounded with a spectacular, collegiate career-low 68 on the final 18 to finish with a 220 in the tournament and tie for seventh place.

Juliet Vongphoumy (77-77-74) tied for 33rd with a 228 while senior Emily Gimpel was one stroke behind (79-76-74) with a 229, good enough for a 36th-place showing.

Alexandria Papell (83-79-72) and Jessica Gregory (77-87-78) wrapped up the squad’s performers, recording a 234 and 224, respectively, as Maryland concluded its fall schedule on high note.

The Terps rallied for a three-day low of 288 in the final 18 holes after posting a 305 and 312 in the first two rounds.  Maryland’s team score in the third round was the third lowest in the field Monday.

“Heidi Baek is playing great and our team has had our moments but we are lacking consistency,” head coach Jason Rodenhaver said. “We are young, playing freshmen and sophomores, so hopefully we were able to learn from this fall and be ready to come out in the spring and compete for a regional berth.”

Maryland will kick off its spring slate at the Hurricane Invitational March 3-5 in Coral Gables, Fla.
