Maryland welcomes back another alum this year as Jessie Hicks joins the staff for her first year as an assistant coach. Hicks just completed her second year with the WNBA’s Orlando Miracle this past summer.

As a Terp, Hicks was a four-year letterwinner between 1990-93 and a two-time honorable mention All-American. She is the fourth leading-scorer in program history with 1,601 points and still holds several career records for Maryland, including field goal percentage (.588, 649-1,104), free throws made (303) and free throws attempted (500). Hicks is also in the top 10 in scoring average (4th with 14.3 ppg), rebounds (6th with 703), rebounding average (8th with 6.3), field goals made (4th with 649) and blocked shots (3rd with 137). She earned her degree in criminal justice in 1993.

Her past coaching experience includes a one-year stay at Maryland-Eastern Shore in the 1994-95 season and a three-year stint at Bowie State, where she also earned her masters degree in guidance and counseling in 1998. Hicks worked with the post players at both schools.

Hicks has played professionally both in the United States and overseas. In 1997, she was a member of the Utah Starzz before moving to the Miracle in 1999. Her Sandra Gran Canaria team in Spain won the Spanish Cup in 1999 and 2000, the Ronchetti Cup in 1999 and was the runner-up for the Ronchetti Cup in 2000. She also played for four months in Turkey in 2000 for FiskoBirlik Giresun.

She has a three-year old son, Jamon Emmanuel.
