Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening Statement:
“I thought this was just a great weekend. When you talk about the first half that is probably the best basketball that we’ve played. To be able to see us really continue to play together as a team, I thought was really special to be able to watch us click on all cylinders. The fact that it’s on both ends of the floor, offensively and defensively, continuing to share the basketball and play better defense was a great weekend to show that as we get ready for conference play.”

On the key for winning:
“I just thought we played hard. We didn’t let them get anything easy on transition. We knew that was an error they are really strong in. They are a really talented team in how they score the basketball. I think our depth was able to rotate and wear them down with our fresh bodies. You could see that a lot in the first half. I thought that was a big difference.”

On the team playing selflessly:
“We’re having fun and playing for each other. We’re making easy plays for each other and it is contagious, because when someone makes a play for you it is easy to give back. That is something that we’ve spent a lot of time talking about. They are able to see how easy we can make the game with the talent that we have on this roster.”

On how the season has prepared them for ACC play:
“Obviously when you build your schedule each season and I think for us we’ve had a good mix of road and home games, competitiveness. When you talk about the depth and our lineup and really getting people experience I think we’ve been able to do that. All we’re looking forward to the next step and the level of competition improving, no one wants to continue to play in these type of blowouts where you can be tested and we’re excited for these matchups.”

On what becomes the priority moving on in the season:
“I think fine-tuning, where you don’t have any weaknesses, that’s something even a game today that we talked about some areas we want to lock in on to be able to improve because at that next level they’re going to try to expose your weaknesses and vice versa we want to be able to take away from other teams.”

Senior Forward Alyssa Thomas

On scoring 20 points in first half:
“I think we got in transition and my teammates we’re finding me in the lane. This helped me get those easy buckets.”

On reaching 1000 rebounds:
“It’s a huge honor, to have your name on a list with so many great players that have made an impact here.

On going down to North Carolina for the first ACC game:
“We’re definitely looking forward to the first ACC game. Like the coaches have been saying, it’s our second season so we have a few days to prepare for them and it’s going to be a tough road game.”

Sophomore Forward Tierney Pfirman

On what has helped her be so successful shooting the ball recently:
“The break definitely helped to unload and take my mind off basketball and then come back and just push through and continue where we left off. Hopefully we can make this run through the ACC.”

On working the fast breaks:
“We definitely work on getting on transition. We do a lot of pass ahead and kick ahead to perfect on the layup. We went ahead and I found Alyssa running on the other lane, so I just passed it to her.”

Freshman Guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough

On if game performance can be consistent:
“I really don’t look at it this way. Whatever my teams needs me to do and needs to happen, I’m there. If I need to go out there and stop the best player, I’ll do that. If I need to go out there and get rebounds, I’ll do whatever the game calls for. “

On being a spark off the bench:
“I want to come out and play as hard as possible. I want to make an impact in any way that I can on the game.”

On having any expectations for the first away ACC game:
“No, I have trust in the coaches and my teammates. Preparation is going to be big and I think we can go down there and give them our best shot.”
