#10 Maryland 85, #11 North Carolina 59

Head Coach Brenda Frese Opening Statement:
"Wow. That was fun. This is an amazing group. They just continue to find ways. I do not know what more I can say about them. They continue to scratch, crawl, and fight. It doesn't matter who the opponent is, or if it is home or road, they continue to play for each other and the name on their chest. I couldn't be more proud, in terms of how we came out and dominated this game from start to finish, especially given the minutes that these guys are playing. I thought we were really, really good. We defended and rebounded. We were really unselfish, in terms of our movement with the basketball offensively and making plays for each other."

On if this was a statement game after losing to North Carolina the first time:
"Carolina brings the best out in us. I think it speaks volumes of the pride that we have in the locker room. We felt like as a coaching staff, we let the team down by not having the true picture of how difficult it was going to be to go in to that first conference game on the road and what that environment was going to look like. To be more prepared and for our team to come out and execute and to dominant in the fashion that they did was pretty special."

On if she was happy in playing a complete, 40-minute game:
"I really am. We locked in. I think if anything a few possessions from fatigue we tried to call the timeouts. We locked in. It was to as close to a perfect 40-minute game that we have played all season."

On Chloe Pavlech's ability to produce in big games:
"Chloe's a gamer. Chloe lives for the big stage. She wants to shine, and that's what makes her so special. To have her come out fearless and with that kind of confidence. I think really her teammates feed off that. The bigger the stage, the bigger the moment; Chloe wants it. Those are great characteristics to be able to have."

On matching North Carolina's physicality:
"It was huge. Anytime you place Carolina you know it's going to be difficult on the boards and you've got to be able to outmatch their physicality. It was something we were disappointed in the first game. We felt like there were opportunities within the game and obviously we were able to take advantage of it tonight."

On what Katie Rutan brings:
"She brings toughness, heart, grit. She broke her nose against North Carolina the first time and then came in and gave us this game tonight. She's selfless, takes the most charges and does the dirty work that doesn't show up on the stat sheet... I thought she was tremendous."

Junior Forward Alyssa Thomas

On first half injury:
"I landed on my hip and took some pain. They gave me some padded compression shorts, and I got right back out there. It is definitely a scary moment when anyone lands that way, but it was not anything that hasn't happened to me before. It was just a bump."

On the team's performance this time against North Carolina
"We played our game today. We didn't let them frustrate us. We were definitely the more physical team today. They really had no answer for us."

Freshman Guard Chloe Pavlech

On her ability to produce in big games:
"I think they call that a show pony, but actually Coach Frese and I talked about this. The next step for me is to get more consistent. You come off of this big game, then you don't play so well the next game. It's just really finding that balance. The ACC is a tough conference, and I'm just learning."

Senior Forward Tianna Hawkins

On rebounding from their last game against North Carolina:
"We went down to North Carolina and gave them a game we could have won. Today was about revenge. I think as a team, we came back and fought."

North Carolina Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell

Opening Statement:
"I think Maryland started out the game really well both defensively and offensively. They shot 65 percent in the first half. In the second half we heated up a bit and tried to match them with how physical it was and their intensity. All we could do was put them on the foul line. They are a very good team and shot the ball very well. We haven't seen anyone shoot the ball like that on us all year. We will go home, practice tomorrow and head to Miami. They are an excellent team and hopefully we will get a chance to play them again. We have to get ready to play Miami now."
