COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Tianna Hawkins dominated the paint with 26 points and a season-high 17 rebounds, and No. 10 Maryland defeated North Carolina State 82-62 Thursday night to win its fourth straight game.

It was the ninth double-double of the season for Hawkins, the ACC's leading scorer. Alyssa Thomas contributed 18 points and freshman Tierney Pfirman added 16 for the Terrapins (14-3, 5-1). The Terrapins, the nation's leading rebounding team, owned the glass, 47-34 and beat the Wolfpack in the paint, 51-22.

Maryland never trailed in its fifth ACC win of the year. The Terrapins have won eight of their last nine games against NC State (8-10, 0-6).

Marissa Kastanek scored 16 points for the Wolfpack, who shot 34 percent from the field in their fifth consecutive loss. NC State hasn't won in College Park since Jan. 23, 2005.

Maryland led by 10 early in the second half before Alicia DeVaughn made a layup to spark a 13-2 spree that made it 49-28 with 16:36 left. The run included two layups by Hawkins and five straight points by guard Chloe Pavlech.

Less than a minute later, Thomas was called for her third foul. Coach Brenda Frese kept her in the game, and Thomas promptly responded by sinking a soft jumper and getting an assist on a 3-pointer by Pfirman.

The lead swelled to 70-39 with 10 minutes remaining.

Thomas and Hawkins each scored 10, and the Terrapins limited NC State to 29 percent shooting in taking a 34-23 halftime lead.

Maryland scored the opening eight points, half of them by Thomas. The Wolfpack started 0 for 5 from the floor with two turnovers, including a pair of shot-clock violations, before Kastanek hit a jumper and successive 3-pointers to knot the score.

Thomas answered with three straight jumpers to make it 14-8, and the Terrapins never relinquished the lead.

Next, Maryland will hit the road to take on Georgia Tech (8-9, 1-5) Sunday at 3 p.m. in Atlanta. The Terps-Yellow Jackets game will be shown live on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com in some areas. They last met in the 2012 ACC Championship game, with the Terrapins winning 68-65.

After Sunday's game, the Terps will return home to host No. 11 North Carolina (18-1, 6-0) Thursday at 8:30 p.m. For tickets to the Maryland-UNC matchup, log on to UMTerps.com or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP. The Tar Heels edged the Terps, 60-57, on Jan. 3 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
