HARTFORD, Conn. - Tianna Hawkins scored 14 points and freshman Chloe Pavlech added a career-high 10 to lead No. 9 Maryland, as it fell at No. 2 Connecticut, 63-48, Monday in the Jimmy V Classic.

Stefanie Dolson scored 14 points and Breanna Stewart added 13 to lead No. 2 Connecticut. The Terrapins held the Huskies (7-0) to their lowest field goal percentage (38.8), lowest 3-point field goal percentage (33.3) and beat them on the boards, 37-33, for the first time this year.

Hawkins added 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double this season and all 10 of Pavlech's points came in the second half.

UConn couldn't take advantage early of the miscues. The Terps held UConn scoreless for five and a half minutes for one stretch. A three by Katie Rutan at 9:30 sparked a 7-0 run by the Terrapins that cut it to two with a Hawkins jumper at 6:02. Huskie freshman Breanna Stewart responded with a three of her own and a run for the Huskies for a 33-20 lead at the break. The Huskies led 33-20 at halftime.

In the second period, Maryland whittled its deficit down to seven before UConn scored eight straight points, including a 3-pointer by Brianna Banks and a three-point play by Bria Hartley. Kiah Stokes capped the run with a lay-in midway through the second half.

The teams will play again in the Jimmy V Classic next season at Maryland. This was the first meeting between the programs.

Alyssa Thomas was voted ACC Player of the Week the league announced Monday. This marks the 12th weekly honor for Thomas, who was named Rookie of the Week a record seven times in 2010-2011 and was named Player of the Week four times last season.

The Terrapins lead the country in rebounding margin by an astounding +22.6. They are top 10 in the country in assists per game (3), field goal percentage (4), scoring margin (5) and assist/turnover ratio (9). Hawkins picked up where she left off last season and leads the country with her field goal percentage of .695.

Next, the Terps will welcome ACC opponent Virginia (5-2) to Comcast Center Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be shown live online for a fee on TerpsTV Premium. For tickets, log on to UMTerps.com.
