College Park, Md. (Comcast Center)

No. 9 Maryland 74, Hartford 40

Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening statement:
"I thought it was a much more dominating performance today from start to finish. I thought we came out with great more defensive intensity, which really led to a lot of unselfish play on the offensive end. The way we shared the basketball and the way we dominated the glass, we were really able to mix it up offensively between our man and our zone and give them different looks. We're excited to win our first championship and to get ready for conference play after closing the chapter on our nonconference and getting better with the adversity that we face and now look forward to opening conference play."

On the starting lineup:
"I definitely feel like the continuity and the consistency is there - our rotations and feel. That's not to say in different games in terms of matchups and different looks. I like out this group starts the game and how they can start that knockout punch early."

On the starters building chemistry:
"You are starting to see that they know where each other will be on the floor. When you have two freshmen on the floor it takes time to develop, especially with a freshmen point guard. I feel like Chloe [Pavlech] has really gotten stronger every single game with her confidence. I feel like these three vets here [Alyssa Thomas, Alicia DeVaughn, and Tianna Hawkins] have really done a nice job with getting our freshmen to feel comfortable and confident. That is what we have to have, we can't have one player who doesn't feel comfortable and confident in what they are doing."

Junior Forward Alyssa Thomas

On getting to the free throw line:
"I am just attacking the basket and trying to get to the free throw line. When you struggle with your shot you want to get free throws and have good form."

On the team having good runs within the game:
"When we are in a flow I don't worry about making mistakes or turning the ball over. We are just going out there and having fun and playing for each other."
