COLLEGE PARK, Md. –  Head coach Brenda Frese announced the hiring of former intern Joe Schoen Thursday as the new director of video for the Maryland women’s basketball team.

Schoen, a 2012 graduate of James Madison, spent the 2012-13 season with the Terrapins interning in their video department. Schoen assisted with day-to-day duties of organizing film, scouts and assisting with player development tasks.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joe back to our Maryland family,” Frese said. “We know exactly what we are getting with Joe which is an extremely high work ethic, a commitment to excellence and someone who is passionate about our team and program.  He is a rising star in our profession.  We're so excited about Joe and his future in our program."

Most recently, Schoen spent last season with the Colorado women’s basketball team as its video coordinator. The Buffaloes earned an Associated Press ranking of No. 11 in the 2013-14 season and made a Postseason WNIT appearance.

“I am thrilled to be back at Maryland,” Schoen said. “I loved working with this program a few years back and I know the special kind of people that are here. I learned so much in that one year and I’m just excited to be a part of one of the best programs in the country.”

As a student at James Madison, Schoen was a practice player for the women’s basketball team and refereed intramural events.
