COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Festivities continued Monday evening as Maryland fans celebrated the Terrapins' historic move to the Big Ten Conference at the fairgrounds outside Nationals Park.

Fans played cornhole, watched soccer and took pictures with roaming Big Ten mascots prior to statements from University of Maryland President Dr. Wallace Loh, Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany, director of athletics Kevin Anderson and others.

"We feel like we've been working together as partners for the last year and a half, but we're really looking forward to Maryland joining us in the Big Ten tomorrow," Delany said. "We look forward to competing and partnering with Maryland and we hope all the student-athletes have a phenomenal experience representing the University of Maryland."

President Loh, who was previously at Big Ten counterpart Iowa before coming to Maryland, took the time to recogninze Terrapin nation while on stage.

"This would not have happened without the support of all the people here -- all the Terps," Loh said. "Thank you for all of your support during our move to the Big Ten."

Anderson then closed remarksby thanking Commissioner Delany for his dedication to Maryland.

"It's a great time to be a Terp," Anderson said. "Commissioner Delany is committed not only to the University of Maryland, but to intercollegiate athletics and we are proud to partner with the Big Ten."

The University of Maryland officially joins the Big Ten Conference on July 1, as it celebrates on the lawn in front of the Mitchell Building from 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm. All fans are encouraged to attend.
