COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland men’s basketball team held its annual postseason awards banquet at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center Tuesday night, highlighted by Dez Wells winning the Len Bias Award for Most Valuable Player.
In an emotional gesture, Turgeon created the Zach Lederer Award for Manager of the Year to honor the life of Zach Lederer, who was a manger for the team and passed away after a courageous battle with cancer last month. Zach’s parents, Christine and John, awarded the inaugural award to senior Kevin Owens.
Other award winners included Charles Mitchell (Len Elmore Award for Rebounds), Nick Faust (Buck Williams Award for Most Valuable Defensive Player), Jake Layman (Juan Dixon Award for Most Improved Player), Evan Smotrycz (Walt Williams Coach’s Award), John Auslander (Greivis Vasquez Award for Most Inspirational Player) and Varun Ram (Tom McMillen Award for Academic Achivement).
