Matt Charvat
Position: Head Associate Athletic Trainer

Matt Charvat is in his 15th season as an athletic trainer at Maryland and his second as the trainer for the men's basketball team.

As the trainer for the basketball team, Charvat coordinates the daily medical treatments for all the players and supervises all rehabilitative efforts in case of injury.

Since 1999, Charvat served as the head athletic trainer for the women's basketball team. During his tenure, Charvat accompanied the Terps to nine NCAA tournaments including four Sweet Sixteen appearances, four Elite Eights and the 2006 national championship along with two ACC Championships in 2009 and 2012.

Charvat has also served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Maryland football team since arriving in College Park. In his first five seasons working with the football team, the Terps compiled a record of 41-20 and captured the 2001 ACC title.

Charvat arrived at Maryland after three years at Morehead State. As an assistant athletic trainer, Charvat worked directly with the football, women's soccer, women's basketball, softball and baseball teams. His responsibilities included the development of rehabilitation programs for injuries such as ACL and PCL reconstructions and shoulder arthroscopies.

Charvat is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and is currently completing the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Corrective Exercise Specialist and KneisoTaping certifications.

Charvat enjoys spending his free time helping the Madieu Williams Foundation, and has traveled multiple times to Africa in support of the foundation.

A native of Hinckley, Ohio, Charvat earned his bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1996. He earned his master's degree in exercise science in 1998 from Morehead State.
