Former Terps Headed for NBA Playoffs

April 18, 2013

As the NBA Playoffs get underway this weekend, former Maryland Terrapins Steve Blake and Chris Wilcox will be in action with the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics.

Blake and the Lakers are the No. 7 seed in the West and will take on the No. 2 seed San Antonio Spurs starting Sunday at 3:30 p.m. San Antonio won both of the regular-season meetings between the teams.

Wilcox and the Celtics, meanwhile, are the No. 7 seed in the East and face the No. 2 seed New York Knicks starting Saturday at 3 p.m. Boston and New York split the two-game regular-season series.

The Lakers clinched the seventh seed on the final day of the regular season with a 99-95 overtime win against the Houston Rockets. Blake logged a game-high 48 minutes and scored 24 points while adding seven rebounds and seven assists.

After Blake entered the starting lineup for the injured Steve Nash at the beginning of April, the Lakers won seven of eight games to close the season. In the final three games of the regular season, Blake averaged 20.3 points per game.

Wilcox averaged 13.6 minutes per game off the bench in 61 games for Boston, as the Celtics finished with a 41-40 record. Wilcox averaged 4.2 points per game on 71.9 percent shooting while also adding 3.0 rebounds per game.

Both playoff series are the best-of-7 games.
