WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former Maryland basketball stars John Gilchrist, James Gist and D.J. Strawberry are reuniting this weekend to play in a newly formed professional basketball league showcase game.

The Basketball Alumni Legends League (The-BALL) will hold a showcase game in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. from the Charles E. Smith Center on the campus of George Washington University. The game will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet regional networks along the east coast.

Admission is $20 for lower level seats and $10 for upper level seats, while college students get in free with their ID. Visit to purchase.

Along with Maryland's three players, Team Washington consists of Jason Clark, Austin Freeman, Henry Sims and Chris Wright from Georgetown; Jai Lewis, Folarin Campbell and Will Thomas of George Mason; and Tony Taylor from George Washington.

The opponent, Team Philadelphia, will be made up of former players from Drexel, La Salle, Penn, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Villanova.

After the two teams meet in D.C. on Saturday, they'll face off again in Philadelphia at Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph's University. That game, which will be aired live on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, will be played at 8 p.m.

The-BALL will launch a full-fledged professional league next summer in college basketball hotbeds along the East Coast. The new league's teams will feature former college standouts from the local universities, designed to give the teams instant star power and a built-in fan base. The-BALL's season will run from June to August to fill a void for basketball fans and giving top players a high-quality professional hoops alternative during their off-season break between seasons in the NBA D-League or overseas.
