COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Postgame quotes following Maryland's 73-61 exhibition victory over IUP.

Head Coach Mark Turgeon

Opening statement:
"I thought IUP was good in the first half. They made a lot of shots and had a lot of confidence. We knew it was going to be a good game. We did a lot of good things in the second half, but I was a little disappointed with our physicality. I thought we played soft in the post, both offensively and defensively. We were too nice and too friendly, except for Charles Mitchell. Seth [Allen] also played well in his first appearance at Comcast. He had five assists and zero turnovers."

On Seth Allen's defense:
"He gambles a lot and tonight it worked for him. Nick [Faust] plays the same way and he made a couple of mistakes tonight. Seth has great hands and he will steal the ball right off of players as they are passing it. Eight steals as a team tonight is good for us."

On Alex Len's performance:
"Defensively at times he was really good. He had four blocks. Other times he wasn't as good. He played a little softer than he's been playing. He didn't rebound the way he is capable of. If he is going to play that many minutes he is going to have to get more rebounds for us. But during the second half he was a presence on the rim and settled in."

On the depth of this year's team:
"We have a five-guard rotation that I feel good about. I think all five guards had pretty nice games. It's nice to have so much depth. I think at times we got tired tonight, but I think [IUP] was more tired than we were. They had to play their guys a lot more minutes than we did. Nick [Faust] played the most with 29 minutes. We were able to share the minutes pretty well."

Freshman Forward Charles Mitchell

On what Coach Turgeon told him at halftime:
"He told me to stay out of foul trouble, keep rebounding hard, and bring energy. That's what I did."

On his nerves before the game:
"It's basketball. This is what I love to do. I'm never nervous. Maybe I have a mental breakdown or I get mad at myself, but I always move on because we have to play 40 minutes in a game, and you can't get sad about one play or possession."

On playing Kentucky next:
"I'm looking forward to playing Maryland basketball. I'm not worried about the hype around Kentucky. I'm worried about Maryland performing and getting the win. I'm not worried about what other people say about the other team."

Sophomore Guard Nick Faust

On the performance of the offense:
"I felt like it was good. We rushed shots in the second half, but overall I felt like we competed, played hard and did a pretty good job on the offensive end."

On the amount of threes the team attempted:
"We've all been working out our shots this summer, me especially. I wouldn't say that's the game plan, but if it's there, we're taking it."

On team defense:
"The defense has been good. We made a couple of mental mistakes tonight, but overall I think we did solid. We're playing more together now than we did last year from the jump, so that's been helping us."

On the freshman's nerves:
"I told them they were playing tight when the game first started, but they ended up finishing the game strong."

Freshman Shooting Guard Seth Allen
On his play:
"I think I played pretty good. I'm glad about the no turnovers."

On the defense:
"Coach always says you play more if you play defense. All day long in practice, I showed him I can play defense, guard the ball, off the ball. I feel like we played great team defense. If you play defense you can stay on the court longer. That's what everyone wants, is minutes. I just tried to play the best defense I could."

On the growth of the team:
"We could be a really great team. There were a lot of mistakes tonight, but they're all fixable. There wasn't anything too bad. We took early shots, so we could play into the clock more. We could be great, and I think we're going to be great. Fifteen to 20 games into the season, we're going to be great."

On preparing for Kentucky:
"I feel we're ready for Kentucky. It's next week, we have a whole week of practice until then. We're just going to play as hard as we can and bring that to the game."

Senior Shooting Guard Logan Aronhalt
On the game:
"I think it's always good to learn from a win. We saw some flashes of brilliance out there, and at times it was looking pretty ugly for us. In the first half especially, I thought they really handled the boards. In the second half, we took over and Charles [Mitchell] did a great job on the boards."

On the team's struggles:
"Decision making and rebounding [were the biggest differences]. Trying to control tempo. We just didn't have the energy we needed in the first half."

On the team's youth:
"It's the first game. We've got a lot of young guns on the team. Even in the warmups, they're like, what's going on, trying to figure things out. I think the guys settled in a little bit in the first half and we took care of business."
