Carrie Blankenship was promoted to the position of Associate Athletic Director/Marketing in June 2014.
In her role, she oversees the marketing unit focusing on revenue generation, promotions and fan gameday experience. Additionally, she serves as the cheerleading and band liaison to athletics.
Blankenship joined the Terrapins in 2006 and most recently served as the Assistant Athletic Director/Championships and Community Engagement since March 2013. In that role, she directed all NCAA championship events hosted by Maryland and served as the lead liaison for all community outreach activities and events for the athletics department. In addition, Blankenship also served as the sports supervisor for women's tennis, men's and women's & field and women's cross country.
Prior to her role with Championships and Community Engagement, Blankenship served as the Assistant Athletic Director/Marketing and Sponsorship Services. From 2008-13, Blankenship was responsible for the marketing/strategy, revenue generation and gameday presentation for Maryland's men's basketball program.
During the Duke-Maryland game in February of 2013, Blankenship implemented a student flash mob that received local, regional and national media attention and also had more than 8 million views on YouTube. She also spearheaded the acquisition and implementation of the tradition of unveiling a giant Maryland State Flag in the student section at football and basketball games.
Blankenship also coordinated the successful Comcast Center court naming ceremony in honor of legendary Maryland head coach Gary Williams in 2012.
During her tenure with the Terrapins, Blankenship also served as the Assistant Director/ Sports Marketing (2006-08), Associate Director/Sports Marketing (2008-10) and Director/Sports Marketing (2010-11).
She served as the Atlantic Coast Conference representative for the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) from 2008-2011 and was a member of the NACMA Sponsorship Committee in 2010. The Maryland sports marketing department has earned ten NACMA awards during her tenure with the Terrapins.
Prior to joining the Terrapins, Blankenship was a graduate assistant in the marketing department at Arizona State from 2005-06. She earned a master's degree in business administration with a dual specialization in sports business and strategic marketing.
Blankenship, a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduated from Northern Illinois with an honors degree in corporate communications and a minor in journalism. She was a four-year letterwinner on the women's volleyball team and served as a team captain during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
