COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Five members of the Maryland field hockey squad earned spots on the 2014-15 USA Field Hockey Junior National Squads announced Friday.

Juniors Anna Dessoye and Alyssa Parker, sophomore Delaney Leathers and freshman Moira Putsch were all named to the U.S. Under-21 Team. Freshman Carrie Hanks made the U.S. Under-19 Team. A total of 22 players are named to each squad.

After a 3 month training segment of regional high performance hockey, athletes showcase their skills in front of an array of selectors in the hopes of making the cut for Junior National Camp. Between the Women’s National Championships, Under-21 National Championships, Futures Elite Championship and National Futures Championships, 112 athletes were selected to attend the four-day Junior National Camp.

Maryland associate head coach Dina Rizzo coached at the Junior National Camp.

“The direction USA field hockey is headed is very exciting with the talent level and depth of the players at the junior level,” Rizzo said. “Having the opportunity to work with Junior National Camp was an honor. I am excited for the five Terps who have been named to a junior national teams to have the opportunity to experience hockey at the next level.”

This marks second season on the Under-21 squad for Dessoye, Parker and Putsch. Dessoye competed for Team USA in the Junior World Cup last year in Germany, alongside senior teammates Katie Gerzabek and Maxine Fluharty.

“Being selected for the Junior National Team is an incredible opportunity for my teammates and I,” Parker said. “We'll get to learn from some of country's most experienced coaches while we train with some of the best collegiate players. We have the privilege of representing our country and our school and I couldn't be more excited.”

Dessoye is Maryland’s leading scorer from last year with 13 goals and 16 assists, including four game-winning goals. Parker added seven goals and six assists, while Leathers started in 11 games as a freshman. Putsch's natural gifts in attack and Hanks’ field general presence will serve well with future USA international competition and Maryland hockey.

During Junior National Camp, athletes were introduced to USA Field Hockey's new full time Under-21 national team coach, Janneke Schopman.  She is a former captain and a two-time Olympic field hockey medalist for the Dutch National Team.  Janneke serves as the assistant coach to the Senior Women's program.
