Maryland prevailed Wednesday night with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh, as it won three consecutive sets to claim a critical ACC victory. The Terps committed just 12 errors on the night, claiming a .305 hitting percentage for the match -- including .500 in the third set.

Junior Ashleigh Cructcher and senior Sarah Harper stole the show against Pitt, as Crutcher tallied 24 kills (.467 pct.) and Harper notched 21 digs. Crutcher tallied nine of the Terps' 13 total kills in the second set.

Senior Mary Cushman leads the Terps with 282 kills, but Crutcher is averaging a team-high 3.74 kills/s in 22 less sets. Meanwhile, Amy Dion notched her team-high 400th assist (4.65/s) Wednesday.

Scouting the Fighting Irish

Wednesday marks Notre Dame's first trip to College Park since 1995, when it defeated the Terrapins 3-1. This will be the first and last meeting as ACC foes between the pair of sides, as Maryland leaves for the Big Ten Conference next season.

Friday's match marks the first meeting between Maryland and Notre Dame in 39 years -- last meeting in 1974 when the Terps won in straight sets (15-3, 15-3). The Irish has struggled in its inaugural season in the ACC, notching just two wins in 10 conference matches.

Toni Alugbue leads the Irish with 242 kills (2.99 k/s) on a .304 hitting percentage, while Maggie Brindock is Notre Dame's primary setter (9.04 a/s).

A Historic Feat

With four service aces against Pittsburgh Wednesday night, senior Sarah Harper became the first player in the history of Maryland volleyball to achieve 1,600 digs and 105 aces.

Harper currently ranks second all-time in digs (1,624) and fifth in service aces (107). The libero needs just 42 more digs to become the all-time leader in program history.

Lean on Crutch

Junior Ashleigh Crutcher showed why she was selected as an AVCA All-American in 2012 as she dominated the Pitt Panthers to the tune of 24 kills and 10 digs Wednesday. Crutcher missed nine games due to injury midway through the season, but appeared to be back to her normal self against Pitt.

Block Party

The Terps continued with their strong blocking ways against Pitt as they tallied 12 blocks. It is the fourth time in the last five games that Maryland has reached double-digit block totals.

After a tremendous showing at the net last weekend, the Terrapins retained their hold as the ACC's best blocking team at 2.86 blocks/s. After notching 14.5 blocks against #14 North Carolina, the Terps had a season-high 19 against NC State.

Key to the success has been the middle play of sophomore Kelsey Hrebenach and freshman Ashlyn MacGregor. MacGregor's monster weekend of 17 blocks pushed her to third in the conference (1.31), while Hrebenach ranks ninth (1.21).

Moving Up

With her 10th and final kill against Miami, senior Mary Cushman surpassed Elizabeth Efron ('95-'97) for fifth all-time on the Maryland career kills list. Cushman currently has 1,236 kills to her name.

If Cushman continues to collect kills at her current rate, she will finish fourth all-time in Maryland history.

Sophomore Kelsey Hrebenach tallied 12 blocks (1s, 11a) in the Terps' four-set victory over Virginia, becoming the first Maryland player to accomplish the feat since 2011. The mark is tied for the highest this season in the conference for a four-set match.

Maryland had 31 blocks as a team on the weekend, including 18 against Virginia. The 18 blocks is a season-high for the Terps.

Conference Honors

Freshman Ashlyn MacGregor was named ACC Freshman of the Week for career-best efforts against Virginia and Virginia Tech in October. It is MacGregor's first career conference honor.

The freshman had a memorable weekend at the net, hitting at a .447 clip with 20 kills and 11 blocks over the course of two matches. MacGregor's 12 kills against Virginia Tech were a career-high.

Head Coach Tim Horsmon

Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season in charge of the Maryland volleyball team and earned his 300th career victory against Georgia Tech earlier this season. All three coaches in Maryland volleyball history garner at least 300 career victories.
