Since June 25, rising sophomore Mackenzie Dagostino and rising junior Adreené Elliott of the University of Maryland volleyball team have been in Dallas training with the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Senior A2 Program.

The first six days of the program consisted of training in preparation for competition, which began on June 29 at the Dallas Convention Center. The group of 47 athletes was drawn into four teams to compete in pool-play format.

Dagostino and Elliott were both drawn onto Team Blue and have asserted themselves well through three matches as the program moves into knockout phase on Tuesday.

Despite dropping game one to Team Gold, Dagostino and Elliott each tallied five points for Team Blue. Elliott had two kills and a team-high three blocks, while Dagostino added two kills, two blocks and an ace.

Team Blue bounced back on Sunday with a five-set victory over Team Red with Dagostino and Elliott each scoring four points tallying two kills, one block and one ace a piece.

On Monday, Team Blue took a 2-1 lead into the fourth set, but dropped the last two and fell to Team White. Elliott again made her presence felt along the net. Elliott finished with a match-high six blocks to go along with four kills for 10 points. Dagostino had three points on one kill, one block and an ace.

Dagostino, Elliott and Team Blue face off with Team Gold in the semifinals on Tuesday. The gold medal match and bronze medal match are scheduled for Wednesday.
