Rupp On Maxwell: "He is the cornerstone of our team in centerfield. Defensively, he's outstanding, and offensively, he's outstanding. He's a guy that can steal bases, as well. He's the total package. We missed him last year, and with him in the lineup this year, it will make our lineup much tougher to deal with. He's right on pace to have a great year. He's healthy right now, and he's swinging the bat much better than I've ever seen him swing it. And his arm strength has also improved."

As a Junior (2004): Took a medical redshirt for the year after suffering a fractured ulna in his right arm before the season began ... a 10th round draft pick of the Texas Rangers.

As a Sophomore (2003): Exploded onto the Maryland baseball scene both offensively and defensively ... led the Terps in multiple-RBI games (10), batting average (.317), runs (37), RBI (43), home runs (10) and stolen bases (11) ... showed great range in the outfield, quickly closing in on the gaps to prevent extra-base hits ... after compiling a 3.93 grade point average, Maxwell was one of only 10 athletes to be named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar by Black Issues in Higher Education ... also named to the Verizon district II all-academic team ended the season with a seven-game hit streak ... drove in a career-high four RBI vs. UMBC (March 4), and duplicated the feat three more times: homering twice against William & Mary (April 2), going 3-for-4 in a 9-6 win over Clemson (April 19), and going 2-for-4 with a home run and double vs. Navy (May 6) ... went 3-for-4 with a two-out, three-RBI triple against Florida State that tied the game in the bottom of the eighth ...hit four home runs in a three game stretch against West Virginia, William & Mary and New York Tech after being moved up in the lineup ... went 7-for-11 with two stolen bases in the three game series versus Wake Forest, including a career-high four hits on March 16 and 3-for-4 in a breakout game against star pitcher Kyle Sleeth on March 14 ... was hit-by-pitch a team-leading eight times.

As a Freshman (2002): Penciled into the starting lineup 35 times as a freshman, while seeing action in 44 total games ... led all freshmen in stolen bases with eight ... drew an impressive 25 walks ... had productive day vs. UMES (March 5), scoring twice and driving in two while tripling and stealing two bags in a 2- for-3 effort ... busted out against Vermont (March 8), collecting three hits, including a home run and two doubles, and scoring twice, while knocking in four runs ... doubled and scored three times vs. Penn State (April 16) ...was 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI vs. Coppin State (May 7) ... one of eight players selected to the ACC Honor Roll.

At Sherwood: An all-around competitor both on the baseball field and the basketball court at Sherwood High School ... selected in the 43rd round of the 2001 draft by the Baltimore Orioles ... lettered two seasons in both sports ... second-team All-Met by the Washington Post ... captain and team MVP for both baseball and basketball ... played in the prestigious Capital Classic, one of the premier basketball all-star games in the country ... played with fellow Terp Brian Jarosinski at Sherwood.

Personal: An animal sciences major ... son of Kathyrn and Austin Maxwell ... excellent student-athlete who finished high school with a 4.0 GPA and chose Maryland over Harvard.
