COLLEGE PARK, Md. - With stellar defense and outstanding goalkeeping from junior Pat McGinnis (Ellicott City, Md.), No. 9 Maryland topped Bucknell, 9-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Byrd Stadium. McGinnis recorded a career-high 22 saves and did not allow a goal in the second half as he lowered his goals against average to 4.73 in three games this season.

On offense, Marcus LaChapelle (Severna Park, Md.) led the Terps with three goals, raising his team-high season total to seven while Mike Mollot (Holbrook, N.Y.) posted one goal and three assists and now leads the Terps in overall points with 11 in three games. Chris Malone (Timonium, Md.) and Brian Zeller (Forest Hill, Md.) also compiled multi-point games, with a goal and an assist. Malone has now recorded points in seven straight contests dating back to last season.

After Bucknell jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Ed Costello's goal 2:09 in the game, Maryland rallied for three straight goals from Malone, Willy Passavia (Stony Brook, N.Y) and Mike LaMonica (Lutherville, Md.) to take a 3-1 lead with 1:32 left in the first quarter. After a Bucknell goal by Michael Cheng just before the end of the first quarter, the Terps increased that lead to 4-2, as LaChapelle scored his first of three goals at the 6:11 mark of the second. Zeller scored his first of the season with 1:44 left in the first half to make the score 5-3 at halftime.

The teams played a tight defensive third quarter in which neither squad dented the scoreboard before Maryland lit up Bucknell goalie Andy Smith for four goals in the fourth quarter. Mollot and LaChapelle scored unassisted goals two minutes apart to give the Terps a 7-3 lead midway through the third. Alex Poole (Hunt Valley, Md.) and LaChapelle -- his third of the day -- closed out the scoring for the 9-3 margin.

The Terps return to action on Saturday, March 11, as they host Towson at 1 p.m. at Byrd Stadium.
