COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 5 Maryland men's lacrosse team once again used a total team effort on offense and defense to defeat Delaware, 16-5 on an overcast and drizzling Saturday afternoon at Byrd Stadium.

Nine different Terps scored goals as junior Matt Brock (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) led the way with his first career hat trick, finishing it off with the Terps' 16th and final goal. Five other Terps scored two goals apiece including the nation's second leading scorer Mike Mollot (Holbrook, N.Y.), brothers Mike LaMonica and Dan LaMonica (Parkton, Md.), Ryan Moran (Setauket, N.Y.) and Nate Watkins (Elmira, N.Y.).

"We did the things we had to do to get the win," said head coach Dave Cottle. "It is a pleasure to work with these players who are picking up the offense and sharing the ball."

Maryland moved to 5-1, Delaware fell to 2-3.

Dan LaMonica posted his fourth five-point game of the season and third in a row as he added three assists to bring his season point total to 23, second only to Mollot, who now has 25 points.

The Terps' other goals came from Alex Poole (Hunt Valley, Md.), Jamie Daue (Lutherville, Md.) and Mike Morsell (Hungtingdon Valley, Pa.).

With Saturday's offensive output, Maryland continues to lead the in total goals with 86 through six games (14.3 per game). With his two goals, Watkins has set a new single-season high with nine goals -- in just six games. Moran and Morsell now have six goals after not scoring any last season. Brock also has six and had just one goal last season.

The flip side, the Terps' nationally renown defense was stellar once again, limiting the Blue Hens to five goals with two coming in the final two minutes of action.

Junior goalie Danny McCormick (McLean, Va.) made 11 saves and was followed by T.C. Behm (Villanova, Pa.), who made four saves and Matt Rzepkowski (Ellicott City, Md.), who made one save.

The Terps defensive unit led by preseason All-American close defenders Michael Howley (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Chris Passavia (Stony Brook, N.Y.) along with Lee Zink (Rowayton, Conn.) and defensive midfielders Paul Gillette (Severna Park, Md.) and Brett Harper (Columbus, Ohio) combined for 16 of the team's 57 groundballs.

In allowing just five goals, the Terps' defense lowered its team goals against average to 6.00 per game, which ranks among the top three in the nation.

Senior face-off specialist Brian Carroll (East Rockaway, N.Y.) won a career-high 15-of-21 face-offs and has now won 80 percent of his draws against Delaware over the last two seasons.

Maryland returns to action next Saturday, the Terps travel to No. 10 North Carolina for a 1 p.m. face-off at Fetzer Field.
