COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Zach Morris, Bobby Ruse and LaMonte Wade of the Maryland baseball team, along with future Terp Tayler Stiles, were named to the 2013 Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball All-Star Team, the league announced on Wednesday.
Morris, playing for the Bethesda Big Train, is 2-3 with a 4.65 ERA in five starts. In 31.0 innings pitched, Morris has tallied 24 strikeouts, which is tied for eighth in the league. In his last start on July 8, Morris held the Gaithersburg Giants to one earned run over five innings, while striking out four.
Ruse has been a stalwart out of the bullpen for Youse’s Orioles. The rising junior ranks eighth in the league with a 1.78 ERA in six appearances with three starts. Ruse has posted 22 strikeouts to only eight walks in 25-1/3 innings pitched. Against the Southern Maryland Nationals on July 5, Ruse held the Nationals to two earned runs over six innings.
Wade put together an impressive first half for the Baltimore Redbirds. The Owings Mills, Md., native ranks in the top five in five major offensive categories. Wade leads the league in home runs (5), is tied for second in RBI (20), ranks fourth in average (.352) and runs scored (19), and is tied for fourth in hits (31). Wade earned CRCBL Player of the Week honors for the week ending June 30 after hitting .381 with seven RBI and two home runs including a grand slam.
Stiles, who joins the Terps this fall, ranks third in the league with 28 strikeouts for the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts. In seven appearances including three starts, Stiles has a 2.03 ERA and has only walked 10 batters to go along with the 28 Ks. Stiles opened the summer campaign with 14 consecutive scoreless innings.
The 2013 CRCBL All-Star Game is set for Wednesday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Povich Field in Bethesda, Md. Ruse, Stiles and Wade will play together on Team North, while Morris will pitch for Team South.
