Scouting the Terps
-The Terps begin the weekend ranked 26th in the RPI and have wins over six teams currently ranked in the top 25 in the RPI including three wins over teams in the top 10 (No. 3 Virginia, No. 5 Florida State and No. 7 NC State).
-In their last six ACC games, the Terps are hitting .278 with 15 extra base hits. While the pitching staff is sporting a 4.24 ERA and holding opponents to a .254 batting average. Individually, Charlie White is hitting .480 in the six games with a .536 OBP to lead the club. Jordan Hagel is slugging a team-best .520 with two doubles and a home run, and leads the team with five RBI.
-Maryland has faced a daunting schedule this season, which currently ranks as the fifth-strongest schedule in the country as compiled by Warren Nolan. The Terps have faced seven teams currently ranked in the Baseball America Top 25 including three in the top 5 (No. 2 LSU, No. 3 North Carolina and No. 5 NC State).
-Maryland has recorded at least one stolen base in six of the its last 11 games including two multi-steal games. The Terps continue to be one of the most aggressive teams in the country on the basepaths. The Terps are third in the ACC with 93 steals, a total which is tied for 20th nationally.
-Charlie White leads the ACC in steals (39) and is tied for third nationally. Campbell's Ben McQuown and Wagner's Ian Miller are tied for lead nationally with 45 SBs. White is averaging 0.75 steals per game and has swiped 14 bags ACC play, which leads the conference. By stealing his 34th base of the season against Mt. St. Mary's (4/17), White became Maryland's all-time single-season stolen base leader.
-White enters the weekend one stolen bases shy of Maryland's career record. The sophomore's 61 career stolen bases is tied for 27th nationally among active players.
-Jimmy Reed continued to be in top form last time out at Clemson on May 4. Reed struckout a career-high 11 batters and held the Tigers to two runs over eight innings for his sixth win of the season. Reed's effort earned him ACC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second consecutive week becoming the first Maryland pitcher to win the award in back-to-back weeks since its inception in 1992.
-Reed threw his first career complete-game shutout at Duke on April 26 en route to his first ACC Pitcher of the Week award. Reed is one of five pitchers in the conference to throw at least two complete games in league action, and is one of six to toss a complete-game shutout.
-Jake Stinnett, Friday's projected starter, is holding opponents to a .216 batting average, the seventh-best mark in the ACC. In conference action, Stinnett ranks ninth with an opponent batting average of .239. In his last six starts, Stinnett has lowered his ERA to 3.21, which ranks 21st in the ACC.
-Since his April 3 start against Rider, Stinnett has posted a team-best 1.69 ERA and is 4-2 with a 2.7 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Scouting the Eagles
-After losing its first 20 ACC games, Boston College has won three of its last six conference contests including a series victory over Miami at home. Last weekend, the Eagles lost two of three to Virginia Tech.
-The Eagles rank 12th in the ACC in almost all offensive categories. BC is batting .209 on the season with a .185 batting average in conference action. On the mound, BC's pitching staff has an ERA of 5.51, which ranks 12th in the conference, and an ACC ERA of 5.02, which ranks ninth.
-Matt Pare leads the team in hitting with a .267 average and has a team-high 19 RBI and four home runs. Chris Shaw leads the team in homers (5) and has 18 RBI.
-Friday's projected starter, Hunter Gordon, ranks 13th in league action with a 3.05 ERA with opponents hitting .255 against. Gordon is averaging 5.88 strikeouts per nine. Nate Bayuk leads the team in appearances out of the pen (24) and is 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA.
Prior to the start of Thursday's game, O.J. Brigance and Boston College's Peter Frates will exchange lineups as honorary captains of the Terps and Eagles, respectively. Brigance and Frates have both been diagnosed with ALS.
