COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland softball head coach Laura Watten has announced the release of the program’s 2014 schedule. In addition to a number of contests against nationally ranked opponents, the Terrapins will host the 2014 ACC softball tournament from May 7-10 at Robert E. Taylor Stadium.
Watten and the Maryland coaching staff pieced together a challenging schedule that features 10 NCAA Tournament teams from 2013. Among those teams is Washington, which advanced to the College World Series last season.
The Terps begin the season with back-to-back tournaments in Miami and Boca Raton, Fla., before traveling across the country for the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. The Cathedral City classic includes three 2013 NCAA Tournament teams, including Washington, Stanford and UCLA.
Maryland closes February in Kissimee, Fla. for the ESPN-Sun Classic, before returning home to host the Maryland Invitational to benefit UMTTR from March 7-9. The Terps volunteered with the UMTTR organization in the offseason in an effort to prevent bullying among youth.
The Terrapins open ACC play for the final time in history as they host Georgia Tech on March 15-16, before taking a road trip to Virginia and North Carolina.
Also included in the Terps’ exciting conference home slate is NC State (March 29-30), Syracuse (April 2), Virginia Tech (April 19-20) and Pittsburgh (May 3-4).
Maryland will then host Delaware State as a final tune-up prior to the ACC Tournament in College Park, Md. May 7-10. The Terps last hosted the ACC Tournament in 2005, when they went 2-2.
