Kristin Kenney enters her third season as an assistant coach under Steve Aird. Kenney was hired in March 2014 to help Maryland usher in a new era in the prestigious Big Ten Conference.

“Kristin is a proven coach who formerly played volleyball at the Division I level and has obtained a master’s degree from Harvard,” Aird said. “Kristin’s tremendous work ethic and educational background make her an ideal role model for our student athletes. Our program is very lucky to have her on board.”

In her three years at Maryland, Kenney has been instrumental in raising the talent on the court and excitement around the program. The Terps brought the 16th-ranked recruiting class in for 2016, the first time in program history the freshman class has been ranked.

In 2015, the Terrapins began the season on an 8-0 run, trumping the season before for the program's best start since 2005. In the team's Big Ten opener vs. Illinois, the Terps set the highest Pavilion attendance with 1,752 fans. Maryland earned its first win over a ranked opponent since 2010 with a three-set upset of No. 12 Ohio State on Nov. 6.

Kenney helped coach Maryland through its most difficult schedule in 2014 as the Terps took on 12 ranked opponents. She played a crucial role in increasing support from the community as the Terps set four of the top-10 attendance records in Maryland history, including the No. 1 attendance record (4,522 vs. Penn State, Oct. 23). The Terrapins averaged 1,539 fans per match in College Park, nearly five times the attendance from just the previous season.

Before joining the Terps, Kenney spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recuirting coordinator at Connecticut for two seasons. In her first year with UConn, the Huskies jumped from 10th place in the BIG EAST to fourth and earned a spot in the conference tournament and finished the season with a 19-12 overall record.

Prior to UConn, Kenney served as an assistant coach at Harvard for five seasons from 2007 through 2011. In her first two seasons at Harvard, Kenney was the team's secondary assistant before being promoted to primary assistant in the summer of 2009.

A 2007 graduate of Boston College, Kenney was a four-year starting defensive specialist for the Eagles. Kenney helped the team to its first 20-win season in program history and first appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament. She received the Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement all four seasons and was the recipient of the 2006 Boston College Coaches Award.

Kenney represented the Ivy League Conference on the AVCA Assistant Coaches Committee. Kenney was also a member of Harvard's Athletic Department Recruiting Committee and Coach Development Committee. Outside of Harvard Kenney coached juniors volleyball for Smash Volleyball Club 15-1. From 2007-08 she coached beach volleyball for the Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos Beach Volleyball Camp and served as camp director in 2008.

Kenney graduated from BC with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and human development. At Harvard, she continued her education and earned a Master of Education degree in human development and psychology in 2012.
