COLLEGE PARK, Md - The Maryland women’s tennis team dropped its match to No. 20 Georgia Tech 7-0 at the Tennis Center at College Park Sunday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets gave the Terps trouble from the start and finished strong in singles. Alexandra Stanova and Nataliya Bredikhina were able to nab sets in their matches.
Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey, the second ranked doubles duo in the nation, put the Jackets on the board first in doubles with a 8-2 victory over Welma Luus and Kristina Hovspeyan on court one.
Olivia Gaudreault and Alexandra Stanova staged a brief comeback on court two, but ultimately fell to Natasha Prokhnevska and Muriel Wacker, 8-5.
In singles, Georgia Tech jumped on the Terps at the lower spots in the lineup to secure the match. Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer started it off with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Olga Gaistruk. Wacker then defeated Olga Bredikhina, 6-1, 6-1, to make the overall score 3-0.
Kurey clinched the contest at No. 4, taking down Luus, 6-2, 6-2. On court one, Stanova played a fantastic first set tiebreak to take the lead against Prokhnevska. The Tech sophomore righted the ship in the second set and outlasted Stanova in a tiebreak to win the match.
Bredikhian also stretched her match into a deciding 10-point tiebreak, but fell to Rasheeda McAdoo.
The Terps are off next weekend, but return to the court on Friday March 28 against No. 2 Duke at The Tennis Center at College Park.
