COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Women's Tennis Team won four titles at this weekend's Maryland Invitational, including the Flight A and B Singles and Doubles competition. Freshman Eleanor Peters won two of the titles, proving herself as an asset to the Maryland squad.
In the Flight A Doubles competition, Peters and Marianne Baker faced teammates Maggie MacKeever and Michal Amir in a tight battle. Peters and Baker pulled out Maryland's first big win of the day, 8-1.
The third win for the Terrapins of the weekend came in the Flight A Singles competition from Peters. Her second victory was over Janet Kim of Yale, 6-1, 6-3. During the tournament, Peters only let 15 games be scored against her compared to the 36 she scored over her opponents.
In Maryland's last title victory, Amir faced Hannah Robinson from LSU in the Flight B Singles competition. Amir fell in the first set, 6-3, but bounced back to outscore her opponent in the second, 6-3. The third set decided the match, with Amir in favor, 6-4.
The Terps also had consolation wins in the tournament. In Flight A Singles competition, Marianne Baker won her match against Mykala Hedberg of LSU, 3-0, ret. (inj). MacKeever also scored another victory for Maryland over Stacey Percival of WVU, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
