Terps Prepare for ITA Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team will send junior Ana Belzunce and sophomore Welma Luus to the Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., this weekend. Pre-qualifying for the tournament will take place Sat., Oct. 1 and Sun., Oct. 2 with qualifying rounds set to begin Tues., Oct. 4, and the main draw commencing Thurs., Oct. 6.

The Terps will open the tournament in doubles competition. Belzunce and Luus will play Vanderbilt's Lauren Mira and Jackie Wu in the pre-qualifying round of 32 at 8 a.m. PT.

In the singles draw, Belzunce will meet Akron's Prang Pantusart in the pre-qualifying round of 64 at 9:45 a.m. PT.

Last weekend, Belzunce started her fall season at the Cissie Leary Invitational competing in the singles draw and pairing with senior Jordan Hansbrough in the doubles draw. Belzunce advanced to the round of 16 in singles play, and with Hansbrough, advanced to the semifinals in the doubles competition.
