WASHINGTON D.C - The University of Maryland women's tennis team opened its 2003 season with a 5-0 win over area rival, George Washington. The Terps swept all three doubles matches and thus the teams ended the competition after Maryland notched four singles wins.
Maryland's freshmen class delivered strong performances as well. Ramona But defeated Nazli Gencsoy at the No. 2 spot in straight sets. Her teammate Jennifer Dent out swung Sevla Gonca, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot.
On the doubles end, Marker and But paired up together at the No. 1 spot while Dent and freshman Andreea Fusea represented the Terps as the No. 2 team. Jedrzejak teamed up with junior Chloe Chavardes to wrap up the pairings. All three teams swept GW, giving Maryland the doubles point.
The Terps will open their season at home on Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Tennis Center at College Park.
