Terps Drop Final Matches of Miami Invite

Oct. 15, 2012

CORAL GABLES, Fla - Sarah Gealer and Vroni Van Berlo both dropped their final matches in singles, as the Maryland women's tennis team finished up play at the Miami Invite on Sunday.

The tournament was a growing experience for the short-handed squad, and allowed Gealer, Van Berlo and Welma Luus to all gain valuable time on the court heading into the rest of the fall season.

Gealer's only action of the day pitted her against Isabella Miro of Barry University in the orange bracket consolation third-place match. The freshman was taken out 6-2, 6-2, but continues to improve early in her college career.

Van Berlo dropped her consolation bracket match to North Florida's Marina Cunningham 6-2, 6-3, and finished the weekend with a combined singles and doubles record of 2-3.

Gealer and Van Berlo were also scheduled to contest a consolation final together, but doubles play was ultimately rained out on Saturday and Sunday.

The team is set to return to the court for ITA Regionals. Play begins on October 19th, and continues over the following three days.
