Terrapins Drop ACC Contest In Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team played their first ACC match of the year on Tuesday, losing to Florida State, 6-1, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Terrapins are now 8-5 on the season, 0-1 in conference play.

Maryland's doubles team of Ramona But (Timisoara, Romania) and Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) defeated Florida State's Amber Tantee and Daniela Gheorghe at the No. 2 position. The Seminoles came back to even up the score in No. 1 doubles, as Anca Dumitrescu and Mihaela of Florida State defeated Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) by a score of 8-6. The Terrapins had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match, giving Florida State the point.

In singles action, freshman Jennifer Dent (Safety Harbor, Fla.) came up with the Terrapins' only victory of the night, beating Daniela Gheorghe, 7-5, 6-0.

Maryland will be back in action this weekend as they host two ACC foes. On Saturday they take on Clemson and Sunday they will face Georgia Tech at the Tennis Center at College Park. Both of those matches are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
